If a telephone is cradled between ear and shoulder stresses are placed upon the neck, which in turn can result in muscle spasm, soreness and stiffness. Poor posture of the neck during extended, demanding or stressful telephone calls may even lead to improper cervical alignment and pinched nerves, and possibly resulting in a reduction of blood flow, accelerating muscle fatigue.
